Microsoft Azure

API Management updates May, 2021

A regular Azure API Management service update was started on May 5, 2021, and included the following new features, bug fixes, and other improvements:

New

Fixed

  1. Caching issues, which might have resulted in a broken developer portal’s administrative interface, are now resolved.

Changed

  1. The client certificate renegotiation feature is now disabled for all new and existing API Management services, except for the services that relied on it in the last 30 days (services with at least one API call that resulted in a client certificate request from a policy, not as part of an initial TLS handshake). The API gateway will request a client certificate only if HostnameConfiguration’s property negotiateClientCertificate is set to true. If the property is set to false, the client certificate won’t be available in the context.Request.Certificate property.

Azure API Management support for Availability Zones now generally available

Azure Availability Zones provide high availability for your mission-critical applications and data.  Support for this capability in Azure API Management means that you can now ensure the following for your API Management instances:

More info.

General availability: Networking for Key Vault references on Windows in App Service and Azure Functions

While apps deployed using App Service Environments have been able to access network restricted vaults previously, now Windows apps with virtual network integrations can also access these vaults. This enables teams to further restrict access to secrets on which their applications depend.

Key Vault references allow the app to use a managed identity to resolve secrets from Azure Key Vault and expose them as environment variables. This allows teams to easily move secrets into management without code changes.

Azure Event Grid for Azure Cache for Redis now in general availability

Azure Cache for Redis integration with Event Grid allows you to manage routing of Redis events to your event handler. With this integration, Azure Cache for Redis events will be triggered when a client exports, imports, or scales your cache instance, and when Redis updates are performed.

These events can be triggered using Event Grid to subscribers such as Azure Functions, Azure Logic Apps, or your own HTTP listener.

Microsoft Azure Web PubSub service now in public preview

Azure Web PubSub service, now in public preview, is a fully managed service that enables developers to build large scale real-time messaging with WebSockets and publish-subscribe in web applications. Web PubSub offers built-in support for large scale client connections and highly available architectures, removing the need to manage any backend infrastructure for WebSocket server implementations.

Azure Web PubSub service supports a wide variety of programming languages.

Open source API Portal now generally available

The API Portal lets you create and publish a customized site with API documentation, for free and without writing code.

Leverage a GitHub-based workflow that enables collaboration between API providers and API consumers, source control, automation, and free hosting.

Capabilities are designed to help you:

API Portal relies on the same technology as the Azure API Management’s developer portal but lacks a lot of functionality (like the management and gateway plane) compared to API Management. Open Source API Portal could be useful when there are no need for extended functionality and the only requirement is to unifi documentation and create a centralized API Catalogue like developer portal In API Management without underlying gateway and management plane.

Actions required

Under this section we will list information about upcoming changes, products that will be retired or other general information that could affect your daily business if no actions are taken.

.Net 4.5 and 4.6, 4.6.1 end of life April 26 2022

.Net 4.5, 4.6 and 4.6.1 will reach end of life by April 26 2022. If you are using any older version of .Net it is time to start planning to upgrade to a newer version, at least .Net 4.6.2 which is an LTS version, to not get to far behind.

The application or solution won’t stop working after April 26 2022 without upgrading but there won’t be any new security patches added which could be a big risk. It’s highly recommended to keep up with the new versions of .Net in order to not get exposed to any unwanted security vulnerabilities.
